Suwamaga (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates suwamaga.lk, a free health information platform for Sri Lanka. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it’s handled.
1. Who We Are
Suwamaga is a health information and civic health platform providing hospital/facility directories, specialist search, clinic session information, and a bystander (patient companion) matching service, in Sinhala and English.
2. Information We Collect
Visitors browsing the site:
- Standard web logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) via our hosting provider, for security and analytics.
- No account is required to search hospitals, specialists, clinics, or read articles.
Bystander Companion registrants:
- Name, contact number, email address
- National Identity Card (NIC) number, for verification purposes
- Photo, submitted during registration
- Any additional information provided during the registration or admin approval process
Users who register accounts (if applicable):
- Email address and any profile information provided
- Email verification status
3. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Operate and improve the facility, specialist, and clinic search features
- Verify and approve bystander companions before they are listed as available to help patients
- Communicate with users (e.g. verification emails, approval status)
- Maintain site security and prevent abuse
We do not sell personal data to third parties.
4. Bystander Verification — Important Limitations
Bystander companions are verified using NIC and photo submission at the time of registration, and approved manually by an administrator. This verification process does not guarantee the ongoing conduct, character, or safety of a companion. Suwamaga is a matching platform, not an employer or guarantor of bystanders. Users engaging a bystander do so at their own discretion, and we recommend meeting in public/hospital settings, verifying identity in person, and reporting any concerns to us immediately.
5. Data Sharing
We share information only:
- With hosting/infrastructure providers necessary to run the site (e.g. our web host, email delivery service)
- When required by Sri Lankan law or a valid legal request
- With your consent
6. Data Storage & Security
Data is stored on secured servers. We take reasonable technical measures to protect personal information, but no system is 100% secure. NIC numbers and photos submitted for bystander verification are treated as sensitive data and access is restricted to administrators handling approvals.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected — e.g., bystander records are kept while the registration is active, and may be deleted upon request or after a period of inactivity.
8. Your Rights
You may request to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (subject to legal/operational limits)
